Chickadee The Forgotten Hobart Takeaway

I recently stumbled upon some commercials for a Hobart takeaway chicken shop called Chickadee which I never knew existed. Google searching the name brings up no results so by watching the ads here is what I have been able to piece together.

Operating in the late 80’s and early 90’s they had 2 locations 243 Main Road Derwent Park which is now Clark Rubber and in the Bellerive Quay which is now Bill’s Asian and Kebab House.

You could eat in or takeaway and their menu consisted of among other things chicken and beef burgers, chicken drumsticks, wings and chips. The first time I saw the ads it reminded me of the Legs ‘n’ Breasts takeaways so I am not sure if there is any connection between the two.

The ads have a really catchy jungle which I am sure would have been very popular at that time.

As to why both locations closed I am unsure I can only guess that maybe it could not compete with the expansion of KFC and other local takeaway places like Praties which may have open in the early 90’s when Chickadee shutdown.

It is always really interesting to find places like this to see what food outlets were around in years past.
